Catching, selling, or eating wild Taiwanese hares is illegal. Although the native Taiwan hare has not yet been listed as a protected species, it has long faced the problem of being hunted, traded, and consumed in rural areas.
However, the Forestry Bureau has already announced and fully implemented the Wildlife Management Regulations for Commercial Purposes, which provide a clear legal basis for enforcement. This means there are now laws in place to regulate such activities.
So, if you ever come across stores selling or serving Taiwanese hares—often called "mountain rabbits" in the countryside—don't hesitate to take action. Take photos as evidence and report them directly to the Forestry Bureau!
