The Healing Bunny Officer in the Police Department

Today, I'd like to share an interesting story that reminds me a lot of the 3D animated movie Zootopia. The protagonist, Judy Hopps, is a rabbit from the rural town of Bunnyburrow who, through hard work and learning, becomes the first ever rabbit police officer in Zootopia's police department. But did you know that in real life, there are actually rabbits within police departments? Today's story is about a "healing bunny officer" in a police station, which is just such a case.

Recently, a charming scene appeared on BBC Japan news: inside a police station, a rabbit was hopping around. This wasn't a wild rabbit that accidentally wandered into the station. The rabbit you see is named Officer Hope (nicknamed Posy). Originally, the police officers arrived at a call and discovered this rabbit at the scene. When they called out to it, the rabbit surprisingly approached them very friendly. So, the rabbit was brought back to the police station, and a few weeks later, the station officially welcomed this little officer.

At first, the staff at the police station thought it was a bit of a joke. However, after introducing the bunny officer, the entire department praised the idea. The rabbit was even given an honorary title: "Healing Officer".

So why did the police department have this healing bunny officer? It turns out that the Yuba City Police Department places great importance on the mental health of its officers. They have been continuously conducting counseling and support work. In 2022, they tried a new approach: incorporating a rabbit into the police team with the goal of soothing and healing the officers' spirits.

When asked how the officers felt about the rabbit, every single one expressed great affection. Everyone enjoys hugging the bunny and petting its fur. After a tiring day, stroking the bunny helps release built-up stress. No matter who holds or pets the rabbit, they can instantly disconnect from work mode and get a chance to breathe and relax. Afterwards, they can adjust their mindset and return to their duties refreshed.

Although the bunny has only been part of the police team for a short time, everyone agrees that in the long run, this will be very beneficial for the entire force.
