In August 2015, inside the cozy classroom of the "Home for Rabbits," a group of rabbit lovers hosted a very special gathering. It was a meaningful farewell party for a 10.5-year-old rabbit named Sugar—a bunny who had brought love and laughter to everyone she met.
Every rabbit owner eventually faces that inevitable day. For Sugar, her decline began at age eight after losing her long-time companion. Her once-healthy body started to fade, and her owner finally realized that Sugar was growing old. Though Sugar slowly came to accept the absence of her partner, her health never fully recovered. She began visiting the hospital frequently for IV drips, checkups, and treatments.
At age ten, Sugar was diagnosed with tumors—caused by earlier incomplete neutering—along with stage-two heart disease and degenerative arthritis. The veterinarian gently reminded the owner to prepare emotionally: despite looking cheerful, Sugar could leave at any moment due to a sudden complication.
A Farewell Filled with Joy
Instead of waiting for tears, Sugar's owner wanted to celebrate her life while she was still bright-eyed, round, and happily munching on her favorite treats. They decided to hold a "Farewell Rabbit Gathering" that was not about mourning, but about cherishing every sweet memory.
Sugar had always loved meeting people. She had traveled widely with her owner, served as a "rabbit teacher" at schools, and attended countless rabbit meetups. Surrounded by old friends and familiar faces, the event became a warm celebration filled with delicious food, laughter, and the same cheerful energy that defined Sugar's life.
