The Lucky Cat: A Heartwarming Story of Good Fortune

Typically, we see Maneki-Neko, or lucky cats, at the entrances of service and dining establishments. They are placed there with the hope that customers will come in droves. Setting aside the question of superstition, do people really believe in the existence of lucky cats? After reading the story of a man who won the lottery after rescuing a cat, perhaps many will start believing in the power of these felines.

The protagonist of today's story is Joe Waldherr, a postal worker from Washington State. His life was filled with routine, delivering mail every day, much like any other postal worker. For him, living a quiet life with his wife was a source of happiness. However, one day, something happened that would change his life forever.

During his usual delivery route, Joe heard a faint meowing sound. He looked around but couldn't find the source. The next day, he heard the meowing again and decided to search more thoroughly. This time, he found a small kitten trapped in a narrow space on the side of the road. After ensuring the kitten was healthy, he placed it in his pocket and continued his work. The kitten slept peacefully in his pocket throughout the day.

After completing his shift, Joe headed home with the kitten. On his way, he stopped at a convenience store that sold lottery tickets. Feeling inspired by his successful rescue, he decided to buy a ticket. A few days later, he discovered he had won a significant prize of $717,500. Joe attributed his good fortune to the kitten, which he and his wife decided to keep and named "Peaches" due to its peach-colored cheeks.

Joe and his wife planned to save part of the winnings, use some to help his parents with their retirement by fixing up their home, and donate the rest to charity. This heartwarming story not only warmed the hearts of many but also made some people believe in the concept of lucky cats.
