Many people facing life's challenges, such as long working hours and rising living costs, might glance at their pets lounging comfortably and wonder if they could contribute by working. Recently, Japan's Yamato Transport conducted an unusual experiment: using cats to generate electricity. They attempted to have cats and hamsters run on wheels to see if they could help with household electricity bills.
The experiment involved a 2-year-old Bengal cat named Mufasa. However, Mufasa showed little interest in running on the wheel, despite the owner's demonstrations and encouragement. In contrast, the hamster was very enthusiastic and ran diligently throughout the day.
To stimulate Mufasa's interest, various methods were tried, including using laser pointers and cat treats. Despite these efforts, Mufasa only managed to run a couple of laps before losing interest. The experiment concluded that using cats for electricity generation is impractical, as they could only contribute about 0.3 yen per month, while a hamster could generate about 1 yen.
This humorous experiment highlights the challenges of relying on pets for energy solutions. Instead, it emphasizes the importance of human efforts in conserving energy and reducing costs.
