Additional Notes
In Taiwan, most New Zealand White Rabbits are descendants of laboratory animals. These rabbits typically originate from the National Laboratory Animal Center, ensuring a very pure breed. The majority of rabbits raised on Taiwanese meat rabbit farms are also New Zealand Whites, bred mainly for economic purposes. However, rabbits from commercial farms rarely make their way outside these facilities.
The red eyes of the New Zealand White Rabbit are caused by a genetic lack of pigment. Because of this, light passes through the translucent eye tissues, allowing the color of blood vessels to show through, giving the eyes their distinctive red appearance.
