It is rare to encounter a case of a beloved pet whose farewell is filled only with blessings and no regrets. The mother of Dona, a white Pomeranian, said this was because her precious pet left with a smile in her arms. The mother politely asked if she could share photos of Dona after her passing. Unlike most pictures where pets lie on their sides, the photo of Dona showed her head gently supported by her mother's hand, with her mouth slightly open in a peaceful smile. If the mother had not said otherwise, it would be impossible to tell it was a photo of Dona after passing.
The mother shared that the only regret was that Dona was too young, only seven years old. Dona passed away from kidney tumors that had spread to her lungs. Her swollen belly still showed signs of subcutaneous bleeding. The illness developed very quickly; the tumor was already 10 centimeters when detected in March. It was hard to believe that Dona had been healthy during her July checkup the previous year and now was no longer with them.
Upon going online, it was clear that Dona was a very positive spirit, often expressing how "great" things were, such as saying, "Animal heaven is not bad except you guys are not there," "Isn't it great that the lump in my belly is gone?" and "Since Dona came to this family, Grandma is less lonely, isn't that great?" These words made the mother laugh because Dona was always so passionate and optimistic.
Early on, Dona showed the image of a black hearse to the narrator, symbolizing her soul's journey between realms. Dona revealed she was a little fairy who chose to live in a dog's body in this life just to meet her mother, because the mother had saved her in two previous lives. Dona was here to repay that kindness. She showed two past life scenes: once as a rabbit wounded by a hunter, rescued by the mother, and another as a hunter who fainted during a hunt and was saved by the mother again.
On the night Dona passed away, the grandfather dreamed that Dona said her departure was to shield the family from disaster. The mother asked if this was true, and Dona replied that she was eager to tell them but they were too sorrowful to let her into their dreams, except grandfather who was calmer, so Dona spoke to him in his dream.
The mother noted that only the grandfather accepted Dona's passing with calmness, while the rest of the family, including herself, her mother, and sister, cried almost to breaking point.
Dona said: "It was the old uncle who came to take me away who said that my leaving can protect the family from disaster. That's why I agreed to leave, even though I don't know who it's shielding. If it is true, I will be very happy. Because I love you all so much, and this kind of thing I will handle!" The mother wondered if it meant shielding her from illness. Dona said: "If it is shielding Mom, then I'm even happier — finally able to repay Mom's life-saving kindness from many past lives."
Curious, the mother was asked if the family worships any deity. She said Guanyin Bodhisattva. But the identity of the "old uncle" Dona mentioned remains a mystery, not even guessed to be the local earth god.
Dona continued with words many owners long to hear but which also troubled the mother: "I selfishly think this is a good opportunity because Mom finally got married like my little auntie (Mom's sister) and can have children. This is a wonderful chance for me. Leaving now means I can queue up early for my spot. I always hoped to be Mom's child." However, the mother admitted she was reluctant to have children.
This made the mother reflect that since her late last year wedding, Dona's health began to decline. Could Dona have had a plan all along?
On the day Dona passed, the mother was not home. Dona, in an oxygen chamber, stopped breathing five times. The mother rushed home anxiously, encouraging Dona via video call. Every time Dona heard her voice, she revived and held on for over an hour until the mother arrived. Dona peacefully left while cradled in her mother's arms.
Dona knew she didn't want to leave alone in the oxygen chamber but wanted to remember her mother's scent to recognize her again in the next life.
The mother laughed bitterly, saying the family has been urging her to have children, but she resisted. Now, hearing Dona's wish, she was willing to seriously consider having children.
