Adorable Scene of Four Giant Panda Cubs Dining Together at Chongqing Zoo

Previously, we shared a cute video of a little panda cub getting grumpy and snapping at its keeper because it was fed too late. Now, another delightful scene from a Chinese zoo has captured the hearts of netizens: four giant panda cubs eating together in a way that looks remarkably human. These cubs sit on chairs around a table, forming a circle as if they were playing mahjong!

According to a report by Sohu Qianliyan, the Chongqing Zoo in Sichuan Province is home to four panda cubs, which are actually two pairs of twins. Since it is rare for pandas to have twins, it was a special coincidence that in 2019 two panda mothers gave birth to twins on the same day. The four cubs were named Shuangshuang, Chongchong, Xixi, and Qingqing, which together sound like "double happiness" (Shuang Chong Xi Qing). They are also affectionately nicknamed the "Four Happy Meatballs" as a group.

The zoo staff explained that "Double Happiness" pandas love to sit together while eating apples, so it is quite common to see all four sitting around a table. The keepers said, "Whenever we feed them on that table, they all come over, each sitting on their own stool, and eat slowly." Usually, all four sit together, but sometimes only two or three join in.

This charming image of the four pandas gathered around a table has gone viral online, with many netizens joking that the cubs look like they are playing mahjong:

  • "Four sitting in a circle without playing mahjong? How can that be in Sichuan?"
  • "They should be given a bamboo mahjong set to play (and eat)!"
  • "So cute!"
  • "Now I understand why foreigners say pandas are people in disguise."
  • "Weren't we told pandas can't become spirits?"

Isn't "Double Happiness" just too adorable?
