Park Ranger Rescues Bear Cub Trapped in Plastic Can in Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, USA, state park ranger Sarah Lindgren was driving along a road when she noticed a small black animal. Curious, she decided to pull over and check on it. The little creature appeared lethargic and was lying close to the roadside fence. As Sarah approached, she realized that the animal's head was stuck inside a plastic can!

Sarah suspected it was a bear cub. Filming the scene as she carefully got closer, she confirmed that the small black animal was indeed a helpless little bear, its head trapped inside a crushed plastic container. Sarah recalled, "When it saw me coming, it lifted its head, so I slowed down and approached gently."

The cub was lying right by a path frequently used by people, dangerously close to the road, seemingly hoping someone would find it. Fortunately, Sarah noticed the bear was in distress. She grabbed the plastic can and struggled to pull it off. After a brief tussle, the cub was finally freed and looked at Sarah with an innocent expression.

Sarah then encouraged the bear to quickly move away to avoid the dangers of passing vehicles. During the rescue, she did not see the mother bear nearby. After reporting the incident to the relevant authorities, it was estimated that the cub was about eight months old and capable of living independently. Sarah noted that the bear might have already been independent, as a mother bear would likely have been able to remove the plastic can herself.

A few days later, Sarah encountered the cub again resting in a tree, looking much more energetic. She remained optimistic and confident that the little bear would survive and thrive. "I did everything I could by the book, and I'm so happy to have helped," Sarah said.

Sarah uploaded the rescue video to Facebook, where it attracted over 220,000 views. Many viewers thanked her for saving the bear and commented on how adorable the cub looked. Others expressed concern for the bear's safety and reflected on how humans should not harm the environment. They emphasized that simply littering can endanger the lives of wildlife.
