Cat Turns Off Water Heater While Owner Bathes, Claims to Save Electricity

In Sichuan, a pet owner has humorously labeled their cat as a habitual offender when it comes to turning off the water heater. The owner shared that during bath time, if the water heater happens to run out of power, malfunction, or if the gas runs out, it often leads to a frustrating experience, especially in cold weather.

Recently, a netizen from Chengdu posted a video capturing the moment their cat turned off the water heater while they were showering. The entire incident was recorded by a home surveillance camera. In the footage, the cat is seen perched on top of the washing machine, gazing thoughtfully at the water heater above. After a few moments of contemplation, the cat finally springs into action, stretching up to pull down the switch on the water heater. Instantly, the heating stops and the flames inside extinguish. The cat then remains in place until it hears its owner gasp in surprise from the bathroom before contentedly leaving the scene.

According to local media reports, Mr. Jiang, the pet owner, stated that their cat frequently engages in such "sneaky" behavior by turning off the water heater. He noted that whenever they find themselves without hot water mid-shower, they know it’s likely due to their mischievous feline. This isn't an isolated incident; they have also caught their cat turning off other appliances like air purifiers and computers, seemingly trying to help save electricity at home.

The video has garnered attention online, with many viewers commenting on how this cat is truly "thrifty." Comments included remarks like: "Cat: This looks like a waste of electricity," and "You all make bathing so troublesome; can't you just lick yourselves clean?" These playful observations highlight how pets can bring unexpected surprises (and sometimes shocks) into our lives. It seems Mr. Jiang may need to devise a plan to prevent future cold showers caused by his clever cat.
