King Cobra Intrudes School in Surat Thani, Thailand

A bite from the world's longest venomous snake, the king cobra, can be fatal. Recently, one such snake unexpectedly entered a school, frightening both teachers and students. Fortunately, the school promptly alerted rescue teams, and after a tense half-hour "battle" between humans and snake, the situation ended well.

According to The Thaiger, the incident occurred on April 21 at a school in Baan Nang Kam, Surat Thani Province, Thailand. A king cobra appeared on the school grounds, causing alarm. Upon spotting the snake, school officials immediately contacted rescue personnel. Video footage shows the snake catcher first grabbing the snake by its tail and then attempting to clamp its head using specialized tools. However, the process was challenging, as the king cobra continuously twisted and tried to escape. It took approximately 30 minutes to subdue the snake.

The snake catcher pledged to assist in returning the king cobra to a distant forest to ensure both the safety of local residents and the health of the snake.

In a related event in March, a similar situation occurred in Satun Province in southern Thailand. Locals accidentally discovered a king cobra nest containing 29 eggs near a rubber plantation, which caused significant fear and halted rubber tapping activities. A snake handler traveled two kilometers on foot to the site and successfully captured two king cobras measuring about 4 meters and 3 meters in length, respectively.

King cobras are primarily found in Southeast Asia, India, and China. Due to habitat loss from overdevelopment, their numbers are declining, and they are listed among endangered wild animals.
