Two-Month-Old Kitten Rescued from BMW After Traveling Over 400 Kilometers

A tiny kitten, only two months old, was trapped underneath the chassis of a BMW electric vehicle and traveled over 400 kilometers before being discovered. The kitten's presence was only noticed when the car owner heard unusual meowing sounds while charging the car in his home garage.

Currently, the kitten is being cared for by animal welfare volunteers as it awaits adoption.

Discovery in New Jersey

According to a report by the New York Post, a BMW owner in New Jersey recently found a kitten hiding under his car while charging it in his garage. The kitten, approximately two months old, had been trapped under the vehicle's chassis since Boston, traveling over 400 kilometers to South Orange.

The car owner, Jeff Rothstein, said he first heard meowing sounds near the car's wheels and immediately sensed something was wrong. Reflecting on the entire journey, he was amazed that he hadn't noticed anything unusual before.

Rescue Efforts

Whitney Malin, a local animal welfare volunteer who assisted in the rescue, explained that the kitten likely crawled into the vehicle's compartment seeking warmth but became trapped inside. The entire rescue operation took more than three hours.

Despite attempts to lure the kitten out with food and even playing videos of kitten meows, the little feline refused to come out voluntarily. Ultimately, firefighters had to lift the car to facilitate the search and rescue. The owner also agreed to partially dismantle the new car, valued at around $80,000 (approximately 2.4 million New Taiwan Dollars), to successfully free the kitten.

Aftermath and Adoption

The kitten is now under the care of Whitney Malin. After a veterinary checkup, it was confirmed to be in good health. Malin shared that the kitten was initially cautious but gradually became more trusting and affectionate after being settled.

She also revealed that several people have already expressed interest in adopting the kitten, with meetings planned soon. Malin emphasized that if the kitten had not been discovered in time, it might have continued to wander near the car dealership or parking lots. Thankfully, the kitten was rescued safely and is now hoped to find a warm, loving home.
