Moving "Mini Roasted Chickens" Spotted on the Road? Experts Warn: Do Not Touch

Curiosity can get you into trouble—think twice before touching anything strange! A woman from China sparked widespread discussion after posting a picture on social platform Xiaohongshu. The subject of her photo, with its unnerving appearance, unsettled many viewers.

The original poster shared that she discovered a bizarre creature at the entrance of her company building. The animal was completely hairless, its skin textures clearly visible. It lay curled up on the ground, only its back in view, while its face could not be clearly seen. From a distance, it resembled a tiny roast chicken—burnt, at that!

Internet Users React: Shock, Confusion, and Speculation

  • Many online couldn't make sense of the photo, exclaiming, "Maybe it's Gollum," "Google AI says it's an African elephant," "I feel sick looking at it," and "This doesn't look like a cute animal."
  • However, some quickly identified it as a baby bat, noting that at such a young age, it hasn't grown fur yet. Excitedly, someone wrote, "This is a sign of good fortune—blessing is coming!"

Bats and Public Advice from the Taiwan Bat Society

According to the Taiwan Bat Society, bats may accidentally fly into homes while chasing insects. People should open windows and doors and turn off the lights, avoiding the urge to chase the animals out, as this can cause them undue stress and make them lose their way.

If a bat leaves droppings behind, disinfect the area thoroughly. The Society also advises:

  • Taiwan has no vampire bat species; most bats feed on insects.
  • Bats typically bite only if grabbed or provoked, as a means of self-defense.
  • If you see an injured, weak, or dying bat on the ground, do not touch it directly with your hands.
  • Bats may carry other pathogens, such as rabies or lyssavirus. Being bitten could lead to tetanus or other diseases.

But there's no need to panic. Contact professional groups for help if you spot a bat in need of assistance.
