Unexpected Surprise: Chickens Hatch from Eggs Left at Home for 2 Days

What is the thing people fear most when they are away from home for a few days? Most would probably make sure to lock doors and windows and turn off the gas before going on a trip, worried about break-ins or accidental fires. However, in China, a family who was away for just two days came back to a surprising scene. The homeowner stood outside the door hearing strange "bird calls", and when they opened the door, things got even more astonishing.

According to a report by Jiupai News, a woman surnamed Jiang from Qingdao City, Shandong Province, recorded a video of the unusual sight inside her home. The family had only been gone for two days, but when they returned, they found the house overrun by 40 to 50 chicks! Jiang recalled that a friend had brought five boxes of eggs last week, and three boxes remained uneaten. Possibly due to the hot weather, the eggs had actually hatched into chicks.

"When we opened the door, our whole family was stunned — the house was full of chickens!" Jiang remembered. The chicks were running all over the house, even inside pots, plates, and kettles. Altogether, about 50 chicks had hatched from the eggs. Fortunately, Jiang and her family saw this as a happy accident and busily took care of the chicks. "Taking care of the chicks was tiring but very joyful. All the chicks survived."

In the end, she decided to keep two chicks for her children to raise and sent the rest back to her hometown. An egg seller interviewed explained that fresh eggs typically have a shelf life of about 10 days. If eaten within a week and kept refrigerated, they are fine; if not consumed, the eggs should be cooked and frozen. "It's generally unlikely for eggs to hatch chicks, but it's not impossible."

Netizens were amazed and commented: "The temperature must have been too high," "The chicks are really cute, is there a breed that never grows up?" "If you raise them until the New Year, you could have a whole chicken feast," "This is fun, but how do you take care of so many?" If you came home to find a box of eggs had turned into chicks, would you still be able to laugh?
