Pet-Friendly Hotel in Wuhan Launches "Pet Sleepover" Service

A pet-friendly hotel in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, has introduced a new "pet sleepover" service, charging 499 RMB per night for a guest room. According to the hotel owner, since its launch in early July, over 300 guests have lined up to book and experience the service.

These "dog employees" work hours matching the guests' stay, but there is a disparity in pay depending on breed. Their daily wages can go up to 200 RMB. Fast Technology reported that the hotel currently employs 10 "dog employees," including breeds such as West Highland Terriers, Golden Retrievers, and Huskies.

The dogs undergo vaccination, internal deworming, behavior assessments by professional trainers, and systematic training before they start working. According to Cover News, while the pet sleepover service has attracted considerable attention, some dog lovers worry: "What if a guest intentionally harms the dogs?"

Ms. Dong, the hotel manager, explained that to ensure the pets' safety, guests purchasing the pet sleepover service must sign a stay agreement and pay a deposit ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 RMB. She also pointed out that the hotel's public areas are monitored 24/7. Since dogs require daily exercise, guests take them outside for walks and interaction during their stay. "During this process, we observe the dogs' condition closely. If a dog is hurt, it will show behavioral signs," she said.

Ms. Dong added that if a guest is found intentionally harming a dog, they will be blacklisted and possibly reported to the police depending on the circumstances. Regarding concerns about dogs scratching or biting guests during their service, Ms. Dong stated that breed selection has already taken this into account, choosing dogs with gentle, stable, and friendly temperaments. In addition, the dogs go through rigorous training to minimize risks.

"Moreover, we have pet caretakers who monitor the condition of the dogs in the rooms and promptly assess their physical and mental state," she said.

A mainland Chinese netizen pointed out that there are quite a few similar hotels across the country. For example, in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, a hotel offers a similar "pet sleepover" service with over 30 cats of various personalities as "star employees." These cats can sleep with guests, go for walks, or even watch movies together, providing immersive companionship that delivers emotional support.

One guest expressed excitement: "At night, I can sleep with cats and even feed them cat treats."
