A cat in Lincolnshire, England, has mysteriously escaped from its owner's home twice, only to head to the same brewery located 33 miles (53 kilometers) away. The feline's puzzling behavior has captured local attention.
According to the UK's Daily Mail, the one-year-old tabby cat named "Peanut" lives in North Hykeham, Lincolnshire. Its owners are a young couple: 24-year-old Sam Bhamra and 25-year-old Charley Rawlings.
Peanut went missing at the end of June, something that had never happened before. It later reappeared on July 9 at the Castle Rock Brewery's bar in Nottingham. Over the following three weeks, brewery staff repeatedly tried to find Peanut's owners via social media but were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Bhamra and Rawlings searched everywhere for Peanut, but there was no sign of the cat. Eventually, the brewery staff took Peanut to a veterinary clinic to check if it had a microchip. The vet found the chip and contacted the owners using the information on it.
Rawlings said, "When the vet called, we thought they were going to say Peanut had died, but it was fine. We could hardly believe it." The couple suspects that Peanut may have jumped onto a lorry and traveled 53 kilometers to Castle Rock Brewery.
After bringing Peanut home, the couple put a collar with a name tag on it. However, Peanut quickly tore off the collar and left it on their bed. Rawlings said the cat clearly showed it wouldn't wear the collar and then went out wandering again.
On August 27, Peanut disappeared once more. The couple guessed it had gone back to the brewery. Sure enough, brewery staff called on August 29 to say Peanut had returned. This time, they think Peanut may have walked there.
Castle Rock Brewery posted on Facebook: "Peanut unexpectedly came back to the brewery today. Luckily, we were able to reunite her with her owners. We hope she stays at home this time. (But we're really glad to see her again!)"
Rawlings, who works at a hospital, told the BBC she believes Peanut walked to the brewery this time. "He definitely is a naughty tomcat and knows exactly what he's doing," she said.
Jessica Collins, manager of Castle Rock Brewery, described Peanut as a cute little cat with a small stature but a loud meow. They nicknamed him "Screech" after one of their beers, because people always hear his voice before they see him.
Collins said Peanut likely walked along the railway tracks to the brewery and the route has now been figured out. They welcome Peanut to visit anytime but still worry about his safety.
