Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon Draws Crowds in Del Mar

Last Sunday (September 7), a unique and exciting annual event, the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon, took place at Del Mar Dog Beach in California, USA. Over 50 dogs jumped onto surfboards to show off their skills, attracting a large crowd of tourists and onlookers.

This entertaining canine competition is organized by the non-profit Helen Woodward Animal Center and has now entered its twentieth year. Footage from the event showed some dogs surfing solo on their boards, while others surfed accompanied by their owners.

The participating dogs appeared in a variety of distinctive costumes, including some sporting sunglasses and others wearing outfits decorated with "fish fins." Most importantly, all the dogs showed serious and focused expressions, fully embodying the competitive spirit as they rode the waves all the way to the shore, drawing enthusiastic cheers from hundreds of spectators on the beach.

It is worth mentioning that all proceeds from this event go to support the Helen Woodward Animal Center's rescue program for "orphaned pets." Founded in 1972 in Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego County, California, the center serves over 90,000 people and more than 10,000 animals annually through adoption, training, and treatment programs for the entire community.
