Heroic Dog Saves Family From Bomb Attack in Peru

In Peru, a reporter's home was targeted at night when someone threw a lit explosive device onto his property. Fortunately, the family's small dog rushed to the device and miraculously extinguished the fuse, saving the entire family's lives. The brave dog has since been hailed as a "hero."

According to the New York Post report on September 8, one night a suspicious man dressed in black approached the home of Peruvian reporter Carlos Alberto Mesias Zarate and threw a burning explosive inside before quickly fleeing the scene. The entire incident was captured on a surveillance camera.

At the time, Zarate's mixed-breed dog, Machis, who weighs just 25 pounds (11.3 kilograms), immediately dashed downstairs toward the explosive. At first, the dog pawed at the fuse, but eventually picked it up with his mouth and extinguished it. Authorities later confirmed that the explosive was of a grade used in landmines.

Zarate told local media, "He kept biting and biting, and he saved our lives." He also said that he immediately called the police to report the attempted bombing. Police have since arrested a suspect.

Although Zarate's family escaped unharmed, Machis wasn't so lucky. They found that Machis's vocal cords were burned, and his once loud bark has now become a low, hoarse breathy sound. Zarate said, "You can't hear him bark anymore."

Despite this, Machis remains active in the public eye and has become somewhat of a minor celebrity for his courageous act.

Heroic Dog Helps Rescue Owner from Glacier Crevasse

Stories of loyal dogs protecting their owners are often heard, and one such incident occurred in Switzerland this July. A man hiking with his Chihuahua on the Fee Glacier in southern Switzerland accidentally fell 26 feet (7.9 meters) into a crevasse. Fortunately, the small dog stayed by his side, helping rescue personnel on a helicopter locate him, ultimately saving his life.

The rescue team from Air Zermatt explained in a statement that the man fell into the crevasse when stepping onto a snow bridge. He used a handheld amateur radio to call for help, and someone nearby received the call but couldn't determine the precise location of the man. After receiving the alert, the company dispatched a helicopter carrying rescue workers to the scene. However, the glacier's surface was wide, and the crevasse opening was nearly impossible to spot.

At the critical moment, a rescuer spotted movement on a rock—it was the dog! Right next to it was the collapsed snow bridge, the place where the man had fallen into the crevasse. Thanks to the dog's alert response, the rescue team was able to accurately pinpoint the accident site. They then descended along a rope to reach the man, successfully rescuing him, and he was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The rescue team said that throughout the entire operation, the dog remained motionless and closely followed every move of the rescuers. Its behavior played a crucial role in the success of the rescue. The team praised the dog as a "four-legged hero" who possibly saved its owner's life in a moment of crisis.
