What to Do When Your Home Smells Like Cats and Dogs?

What's the Biggest Challenge of Having Pets? It's Not Just the Fur…

Beyond the endless fur scattered all over the floor, another major issue pet owners face is the odor! Many pet parents spend a lot of money buying various cleaning products and deodorizing sprays. However, a veterinarian recently revealed on social media a super cost-effective and safe way to both clean and deodorize your home using just one simple item.

The secret? Alkaline soap — the kind you'll often find in grandma's house!

According to the veterinarian, all you need to do is cut off a small piece of this alkaline soap and dissolve it in water, or scrape it into fine shavings, creating a soapy solution. This soap solution can be used for mopping floors or placed in a spray bottle for easy application. Not only will your floors be sparkling clean, but the solution also effectively eliminates odors.

You can even scrape some soap directly into your washing machine to clean your pet's bedding, mats, and clothes. The best part is that alkaline soap contains no fragrances, making it harmless for pets. Even if cats or dogs accidentally lick a small amount, there's absolutely no need to worry.

The veterinarian also shared that their own clinic uses alkaline soap for cleaning. They connect the soapy water to a high-pressure washer to clean dog kennels and cat cages, then rinse with clean water. Because the clinic is large, they go through about 30 bars of soap each month.

However, for an average household, just one bar of soap can last for six months. This is almost like getting cleaning and deodorizing for free, and it's even more effective than deodorizing products that cost hundreds of dollars.

The veterinarian emphasizes that they have personally used this method for years. It's truly money-saving, practical, and highly recommended for every pet family.
