Men Who Own Cats Are More Attractive? UK Survey Shows "Cat Dads" Gaining Major Popularity in the Dating Scene

The Rise of "Cat Dads" in the UK

Cat culture in the United Kingdom is quietly changing. In the past, cat owners were often assumed to be mostly women. However, a recent survey shows that the gender gap among cat lovers is narrowing—and nearly half of male cat owners (47%) proudly call themselves "Cat Dads."

This "Cat Dad" trend has even found its way into the dating world. About 40% of young people say that men who keep cats are far more attractive. The study, commissioned by Mars Inc., revealed that younger generations especially appreciate these feline-loving men. Among Gen Z, 41% said cat owners appear more appealing, while 40% of millennials agreed. Another 39% admitted that seeing a man with a cat in his dating app photos is an instant bonus.

Beyond appearances, 45% of respondents viewed cat ownership as a positive personality trait, and around 30% even labeled "Cat Dads" as a clear "dating green flag," meaning they signal safety, warmth, and emotional maturity. Interestingly, 36% of male owners said they've noticed an improvement in their love lives since adopting a cat.

Why are "Cat Dads" so charming? Living with a pet often nurtures empathy, caregiving skills, and emotional expressiveness. Common words used by Britons to describe male cat owners include "thoughtful" (37%), "responsible" (31%), "gentle and sensitive" (23%), and "emotionally intelligent" (17%). In addition, 32% of respondents believed "Cat Dads" make better listeners and more understanding partners.

Yet, behind their growing popularity, many of these men are actually homebodies. Over half (53%) admitted they would rather stay home with their cats than go out socializing, and about 40% even confessed to turning down social events just to spend more time with their feline companions.

It seems that in modern Britain, being a "Cat Dad" isn't just cute—it's a quiet revolution reshaping how people see masculinity, sensitivity, and companionship.
