For cat owners everywhere, trimming a cat's nails can feel like a full-on battle of strength and strategy. Recognizing this universal struggle, Japanese home brand NITORI has launched a new product that's stirring up conversation — the "Cat Nail-Clipping Support Apron." This apron promises to reduce the chaos that usually unfolds during nail-trimming sessions, helping even the grumpiest felines stay calm and cooperative.
The apron's design draws inspiration from a mother kangaroo's pouch. It features a large front pocket designed to hold your cat snugly against your chest, giving them a sense of warmth and security. By feeling your body heat and heartbeat, your cat is supposed to relax, letting you trim their nails with ease and precision — and lowering the risk of cutting too deep or at the wrong angle.
Design Highlights
- Precise openings: Four small holes on the front let your cat's paws stick out individually while the rest of its body remains comfortably wrapped.
- Adjustable drawstring: The pouch's opening includes an adjustable drawstring that can be tightened based on your cat's size to prevent any mid-session "escape."
- Thick fabric: Made from durable twill fabric, the polyester material resists fur adhesion and is easy to clean.
While the concept sounds ideal on paper, experienced cat owners were quick to express skepticism after seeing the product photos. Social media was filled with humorous reactions like:
"I'd be covered in scratches before I even got all four legs into the holes!"
"My cat would go berserk long before I could line up all four paws."
"The moment my cat senses something off, it's already hiding under the sofa."
"No wonder the product photo uses a stuffed cat — now it all makes sense!"
"If my cat would willingly get into the apron, I wouldn't need it in the first place!"
"A laundry bag works better — and cheaper."
Many even joked that reading others' stories made them feel oddly comforted:
"Turns out everyone's cat goes wild too — I feel healed already."
Overall, the apron could be useful if your cat has a gentle temperament and doesn't mind being held. In that case, it might make nail-trimming sessions smoother and less stressful. However, for highly alert or touch-averse cats, the actual effectiveness may be quite limited.
Currently priced at 2,990 yen, the apron is not yet available in Taiwan's NITORI stores. Cat owners interested in trying it out might want to look for it during their next trip to Japan.
