The Badai Bay wreck is a renowned diving site in Lanyu, famed for its 40-meter deep sunken ship and the rich marine ecosystem surrounding it. This unique underwater environment attracts countless diving enthusiasts eager to explore its depths.
Recently, Leader Diving made an unexpected discovery while exploring the Badai Bay wreck-they encountered a wild, protected whale shark. This rare and magical encounter left divers exclaiming that they were "so envious it caused sleepless nights".
On the 17th, during their dive at Badai Bay wreck, Leader Diving captured footage of the whale shark gracefully swimming amidst the clear blue waters. The divers excitedly filmed the majestic creature as it moved alongside them, creating a dreamlike scene with the diver's bubbles and the whale shark's enormous body.
The team behind Taiwan's first documentary focused on "marine shipwreck ecology", titled Underwater at 30 Meters, shared the video on Facebook, marveling at the whale shark's enchanting appearance and praising the extraordinary luck involved. They noted the whale shark's playful interaction with the divers' bubbles and expressed deep envy, as even the documentary's veteran editor, who has jumped into Lanyu's waters hundreds of times, had never seen such a sight.
Many viewers responded with awe, commenting that the whale shark's presence seemed to slow down time, praising Lanyu's exceptional underwater visibility, and expressing goosebumps while watching. Comments highlighted that Lanyu's visibility is truly world-class and expressed hope that Taiwan's marine environments will continue to improve, allowing more incredible wildlife encounters without needing to travel abroad.
With whale shark sightings also reported in Kenting and the recent appearance of whales around Lanyu, the Underwater at 30 Meters team hopes Taiwan's seas will become increasingly healthy and welcoming to these gentle giants, bringing more surprises and joy to locals and visitors alike.
